Watch and write a critique of the movie Breaking Away. You do have leeway in how you organize your critique, but one of the central themes of your paper will revolve around whether or not the movie accurately depicted life in Bloomington and on the IU campus in general, and the Little 500 race in particular, at the time that it was shot.
In order to find out what life in Bloomington and at IU in general, and Little 500 in particular, was like at the time, and assess the accuracy of the movie in this regard, you will research the Proquest Historical Newspapers database available at https://libraries.indiana.edu/resources/proquest-historical-newspapers – you can also use the Media Collections Online: https://media.dlib.indiana.edu/

Your critique will make specific references to the movie on one hand, and, on the other, to newspaper and magazine articles, as well, if you would like, to video resources, all published during that period of time (all quoted and footnoted properly using Chicago style), and contrast both to support your analysis. You can use newspaper, magazine, and video resources published during a period ranging from 10 years before the movie appeared in the theatres until 10 years after. You are required to use at least 4 sources from this period besides the movie itself.
