What are the characteristics of American democracy? How does American democracy differ from the theory of democratic government?
Theoretically speaking democratic governments are meant to ensure the will of the people is heard and implemented through free choice while also protecting fundamental human rights but unfortunately this isn\'t always the case in practice. This can be attributed to various factors such as voter suppression laws which limit certain groups ability to participate in elections or gerrymandering which allows certain parties/politicians to manipulate district lines so they retain control over specific territories etc.. However American democracy does offer more freedoms than most with citizens having greater access to media platforms & public forums for expressing their opinion without fear repression from authorities etc..
Moreover America’s political structure further differentiates it from many other countries by virtue its tripartite system (ie: Executive Branch- headed by president who has authority appointing officials/enforcing laws passed Congress et al.), Legislative Branch - responsible for making federal law & appropriating funding governmental initiatives) & Judicial Branch- comprised Supreme Court justices whom oversee legal matters). The primary benefit being that no single branch holds overwhelming influence over others thereby creating an environment constant checks & balances amongst them thus preventing any potential abuse power down line.
In short characteristics American Democracy include free election process with right vote available all citizens regardless race/gender/social status etc., majority rule wherein decisions made reflect desires majority population thus reducing chances favoritism occurring within governmental affairs , active pursuit protect minority rights via civil liberty safeguarding mechanisms alongside separation powers between Executive/Legislative /Judicial branches order guarantee effective functioning thereof . These elements not only conform accepted standards democratic governance but also serve provide cornerstone foundation upon which United States operates under today enabling future generations flourish expand beyond what was previously thought possible .
