Analyzing team leadership can help you to understand how to improve and advance your leadership style. Using the assigned readings and additional applicable scholarly sources, develop a narrated presentation for a team you would hypothetically lead within an educational setting of interest. Be sure to begin with an introduction that informs your professor of the type of team you are leading (e.g., an IEP team preparing for the upcoming school year).
In your presentation, explain the following:
Outline the leadership approach(es) or style(s) you plan to employ when leading the team.
Specify how you plan to utilize these leadership approach(es) or style(s) to lead the team. Include examples to illustrate your thoughts.
Evaluate the techniques, strategies, and evaluation procedures you would implement to support your team’s performance. Think of each individual as well as the team as a whole.
Determine your level of involvement within the day-to-day functionality of the team. How would you plan to delegate tasks and maintain appropriate levels of communication?
For example, I will employ a servant leadership approach by empowering each individual on the team and placing their needs above my own. This means taking time to get to know each person’s strengths and weaknesses so that roles can be delegated accordingly with everyone feeling heard and supported in their work. Additionally, it involves listening more than talking and giving credit when individuals do well or make positive contributions (Kelly & Robinson-Cimpian, 2017).
At the same time, I plan on using a transformational approach by providing clear direction but also offering autonomy so that members feel empowered to take ownership over tasks assigned rather than me just expecting them complete it without any guidance (Kouzes & Posner 2019). In addition, as leader need ensure constructive feedback provided order foster growth learning within group setting allowing members develop skills needed reach end goal cited Drago 2016 . Finally role emphasize active communication engaging members making sure progress throughout preparation process thus goal achieved successfully referenced McLeod 2018 .
To further support performance within group setting strategies such constant check-ins problem solving sessions evaluate successes failures respectively implemented maintain appropriate levels motivation among participants described Mercurio 2020 .
