Based on BOTH of the assigned novels construct an essay that discusses the following:
Both of the protagonists of the novels, Henry Fleming and Frederick Douglass, have very different journeys (taking into understanding that one is fiction and one is a true slave narrative). For this essay please discuss how each of these characters earned their own “red badge of courage.” How are their lives similar while they are still so very different? How did each of them also overcome their own -red sickness” as well? While crafting your essay give consideration to the lessons of life and mortality that each man faced. What did they learn from these lessons? How were these lessons the same and different for each man? Also, consider the natural human instinct to survive. How is this depicted by both men? How and why did each act in terms of both self-interest and also group obligation?
