Censorship.
The Internet has become the greatest library ever. With the good comes the bad, however. In particular, some concerned citizens are worried that children can too easily access websites containing inappropriate material such as pornography or racial propaganda. Several solutions to this perceived problem have emerged. One is indirect censorship through federal or state laws that criminalize the transmission of pornographic material online. Another possibility is federal or state laws requiring the use of so-called filtering programs when children are involved. In either case, the battle lines are drawn. Civil libertarian groups and other free speech advocates want no censorship. Concerned parent groups think differently. How do you feel about this issue? Why? Defend your position using concrete examples.
When it comes to this debate, I personally stand somewhere in the middle; I recognize both logical arguments but feel like providing more control over what children can access is ultimately for the better. This does not mean censoring specific content per se but rather having tools available which allow parents/guardians to determine their own level comfort when enabling their kids access various websites (ie: creating user profiles containing filters based on age appropriateness). Furthermore depending seriousness case government intervention might also be warranted although this process should only take place after careful deliberation all involved stakeholders (ie: legal professionals, public figures etc..) so that whichever course action chosen respects existing laws & policies while still achieving desired outcome efficiently & effectively .
In conclusion it’s important remember that internet incredibly powerful tool provide opportunities never thought previously possible however protection safety users must remain priority moving forward no matter intention behind technology use . Having ability limit exposure certain materials through legislation/filtering software may help achieve this goal thus ensuring everyone – particularly minors – can enjoy benefits digitalization without risk being exposed potentially dangerous content down line .
