Conducting a Teacher Word Walk where

You will conduct a Teacher Word Walk where you (as a "teacher") guide a "student" through the words from this week's sort. The words are taken from the Within Word Pattern Speller stage. Cut the words from the Word Sorts list (below) before beginning the activity. If you do not have access to a printer, neatly write each word on an index card or a piece of paper. You do not need to find a book that explicitly ties into this sort.

After conducting the Word Walk (as the "teacher") with your "student," switch roles. You will now be the student, and your partner will assume the role of the adult caregiver that supports you in completing your homework. You will use the same word cards you already cut out, and you will complete the front and back of the Word Sort Homework Recording Sheet as a student. This recording sheet is taken directly from a third grade inclusion classroom that has students ranging from the Letter Name Stage (Feature A) to the Syllable Juncture Stage (Feature L). Every student in this classroom (including ESE students) completes the same homework but has a differentiated word sort.

complete Word Sort Homework Recording Sheet front and back (done as a student- find a friend to be your "parent" when completing).
A one paragraph reflection of the activities, from the perspective of a teacher assigning the word sort OR a student participating in this activity. You may include this in your Recording Sheet (down).
