Critical Response

What message is Maggid Jhos Singer teaching us in his Eli talk?  Is God beyond gender? How does the essay “Is God Transgender?” address God’s gender? Give examples from the essay. Theology addresses ideas about God. How have the Abrahamic traditions treated God’s gender? Use examples to illustrate. How might queering religion go about shaking it up? For instance, in the prayerbook at Sha’ar Zahav, there are a variety of names for God including calling the Divine by anthropomorphic attributes. Give two names to God that are gender neutral (Note: this exercise does not require any belief in a god or God).
