President Woodrow Wilson has asked Congress for a declaration of war, and Congress has agreed. Your best friend is about to join the army. You, however, think the United States should remain out of this European trouble. After all, you trust George Washington's wisdom to avoid "entangling alliances." Write an imaginary letter dialogue between you and your friend in which both of you argue for your positions for and against the war. Try to be fair to both speakers.

The shortages are so severe that some people have resorted to eating horses due to their inability to secure enough rations from normal sources .
