Provide your own evaluation of our democracy. Or, in other words, answer the question: How well does our democracy work? That is a big question, of course, with potentially volumes devoted to an answer. So, to better direct your response, please focus on the following elements: 1) Choose one or two topics we have covered throughout the semester as your central focus for the evaluation of democracy. 2) Present some criteria for a “good democracy” that is relevant to your topic (ie. links between public preference and public policy, free and fair elections, democratic institutions, an informed electorate, equality in participation and influence, etc.). In short, how would one know if democracy was working. 3) Evaluate how well our democracy works within the topic or subject you chose considering the criteria you proposed. Here, you are welcome to bring in your own examples or ones from the readings and discussions. 4) Keep in mind there are often trade-offs. Perhaps no such thing as a perfect democracy exists. That said, it would also be useful to include a discussion of how we might move toward a “better democracy in light of whatever deficiencies you note above. Activate Windows
