Designing a qualitative study
Team up with one of your peers to complete this Discussion Question. Once you have found your partner for this discussion question, assume that you are both hired as research consultants to Waldorf, Inc., who is interested in your guidance on how to improve both production and employee retention rates. As a team of two, you both have formed the operational theory that employee retention is influenced by employee satisfaction, including satisfaction with income and employee benefits.
Your dyad is tasked with designing a qualitative study, either through one-on-one interviews (with at least three Waldorf employees) or a focus group (with at least five employees).
To prepare for your study, divide up the questions below so that each person in your dyad has an opportunity to answer all questions
Is your research confirmatory or exploratory in nature? Provide explanation.
What is the orientation of your research and why?
Why did you choose a focus group/direct interview for this study?
How did you address some of the main disadvantages of your approach?
What are some of the questions that you are planning to ask during the meeting (focus group or interview)?
How will you collect and analyze data?
