Diagnostic test
In a study, a new diagnostic test is applied to a group of 600 people suspected correctly identifies 150 out of 200 people with disease D. However, it correctly identifies only 100 of 400 people who do not have disease D. The authors write that although the test is not very specific, it possesses adequate sensitivity.
(a) Construct a 2X2 table that corresponds to the data described above.
(b) Evaluate the test’s characteristics (sensitivity/specificity/positive predictive value/negative predictive value) and make a recommendation as to whether this test could be useful or not.
