In this assignment you will select a current medical ethics issue to research
Term Paper Requirements:
 Discuss the technical aspects of your topic in general terms.
 Discuss the public policy debates relevant to the topic you choose. This section should cover arguments
that are in favor of and opposed to the use of the techniques or products.
 Express your personal opinion regarding the importance of the topic and the validity of the pro and con
arguments.
 It is expected that you have the following:
o A title page
o The body of the paper: 4-6 pages of text, double-spaced, 12 point font with clear and
understandable language with no grammar or spelling errors. Provide adequate justification that
supports your response with at least three appropriate references using textbooks, websites, and
articles are required.
o Subheadings (technical aspect, public policy, and personal opinion/conclusion.)
o Appropriate in-text citations throughout paper
o A reference page with only the sources that you used in the body of the paper. Sources should be
less than 5 years old unless there has not been recent research available. At least one reference
must be a peer-reviewed article from a profession journal. Do not use Wikipedia or encyclopedia
as they are not considered a reliable academic source to use.

A. Explanation of abortion

  1. Reasons for women wanting to abort
  2. Whether it is right to be pro-choice or pro-life and why.
    B. Should the government have a say or be involved in the choice in a woman wanting to abort
  3. Does the law have the ability, and should the government be allowed to speak/protect the ones who cannot defend themselves?
  4. Should the law not be involved and leave the decision to the mother/parents
    C. Thesis
  5. Abortion is a traumatic experience for women; in some cases, it leads to damaging of the reproductive system, possible depression, and does not allow an unborn child to have a voice.

II. Women with reproductive complications
A. Different forms of reproductive complications

  1. Abortion damages the reproductive organs
  2. Statistics
  3. How the option of adoption can be available for women who cannot become pregnant or have difficulty staying pregnant

III. Abortion can lead to cases of depression
A. Any form of pregnancy loss will interrupt the hormone cycle

  1. Negative feelings that form after a planned termination can possible be due to hormonal changes.
  2. The emotional response from the termination can range from grief, loss, regret, and it is all dependent on the individuals’ situation

IV. Unborn child should have the right to have a voice just as living humans do
A. The government should have somewhat of a say to protect and have a voice for the unborn

V. Different options available instead of abortion
A. Single parenting
B. Co-parenting with father
C. Placing the baby under a temporary guardianship
D. Have the baby be placed with a family member
E. Adoption

VI. Conclusion
A. Abortion is a traumatic experience for women; in some cases, it leads to damaging of the reproductive system, possible depression, and does not allow an unborn child to have a voice.
B. I believe it is important to share the options available to a woman who is considering the process of abortion. I do not believe it is fair to take the life of an unborn child who has no control of his or her life.
