Az Metro to Pay $300,000 to Settle EEOC Age Discrimination Law Suit

The EEOC filed a law suit against AZ Metro for age discrimination against two of their oldest employees. The employees in question were men in their sixties who where released from their job. AZ Metro Distributers, LLC distributes Arizona Ice Tea, and had expressed that they wanted to take their marketing in a different direction and want their employees to be younger in age.

In the end AZ Metro had to pay $300,000 for loss of wages and liquidated damages. Thy also have to participate in significant non-monetary relief designed to prevent further discrimination.

The fact that these men were fired due to their age made this a violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

Age discrimination is almost illegal in all fifty state, as it should be. A persons age should not determine their abilities to work, live, or be independent. I work with people well in their 70's who are more than capable of doing what they were hired to do, they are physically fit, and have rights just like younger people do.
