Donald trump voters
Our history books often cover these Revolutions: the French (1798), the Chinese (1911) and the Russian (1917). It’s rare if history pays some attention to the Mexican Revolution (1910). This Revolution is one of the longest (lasting ten years) and a very important one for Mexico, for it was to determine how the country would unfold in the 20th century. Furthermore, the Mexican Revolution is one of ‘great social commotion.’
We can say that the Mexican Revolution is defined by two things. One, a rebellion by the working class and the peasants. Not satisfied with Porfirio Diaz, the president of the time, these two social classes decided to overthrow his long-time presidency, creating an armed insurgency. Two, it was a way to keep an established order and systemic power (not by the working class or peasants, though).
This is your task. Choose one article and 1) Point out either a word, a sentence or a phrase that clears or defines the concept of Revolution for you; 2) Briefly explain what’s the argument of the article (is it about race, health, war, etc.); 3) Share your overall opinion of the article.
Choosen article: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/28/us/politics/donald-trump-voters.html
The article you chose is about the potential for revolution if Hillary Clinton wins the 2016 presidential election. The author, Maggie Haberman, interviews some Donald Trump voters who express their fear that a Clinton presidency will lead to a revolution.
The word or phrase that defines the concept of revolution in this article is "uprising." The author writes that some Trump voters are "warning of an uprising if Hillary Clinton wins." This suggests that they believe that a Clinton presidency would be so bad that it would lead to a violent overthrow of the government.
The argument of the article is that some Trump voters are so dissatisfied with the political establishment that they are willing to support a candidate who they believe is a threat to the status quo. The author argues that these voters are motivated by a fear of change, and that they believe that a Clinton presidency would lead to a loss of their way of life.
My overall opinion of the article is that it is well-written and informative. The author does a good job of capturing the fear and anger of some Trump voters. However, I think that the article could have done a better job of exploring the reasons why these voters are so dissatisfied with the political establishment.
