Chapter 6 of your text discusses friends, family, and the community. This chapter discusses networks and
those that are built in an older adults’ life. As we move from one stage of life to the next support often can
make transitions in our lives easier.
Instructions: In journal 1 research the web in the community and search for resources designed to promote
social contact (social activities) specifically for older adults. These resources include senior centers, activity
centers, agencies, etc..
In your Journal entry 1 you should discuss what resources you found to promote social contact for older adults,
how difficult it was to find the information, and how accessible do you think this information is.
NOTE: Social media sites (snapchat, facebook, etc..) , dating sites (tender, etc..), dating agencies are not safe
and reliable resources for social contact and not acceptable for this assignment. List the name of the center,
agency, etc.. the address and phone number, and what the location provide. You should have at least 3
different resources. Using the same type of source such as a several senior centers, or activity centers is not
acceptable.
