Dante Alighieri played a critical role in the literature world through his poem Divine Comedy that was written in the 14th century. The poem contains Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. The Inferno is a description of the nine circles of torment that are found on the earth. It depicts the realms of the people that have gone against the spiritual values and who, instead, have chosen bestial appetite, violence, or fraud and malice. The nine circles of hell are limbo, lust, gluttony, greed and wrath. Others are heresy, violence, fraud, and treachery. The purpose of this paper is to examine the Dante’s Inferno in the perspective of its portrayal of God’s image and the justification of hell.
In this epic poem, God is portrayed as a super being guilty of multiple weaknesses including being egotistic, unjust, and hypocritical. Dante, in this poem, depicts God as being more human than divine by challenging God’s omnipotence. Additionally, the manner in which Dante describes Hell is in full contradiction to the morals of God as written in the Bible. When god arranges Hell to flatter Himself, He commits egotism, a sin that is common among human beings (Cheney, 2016). The weakness is depicted in Limbo and on the Gate of Hell where, for instance, God sends those who do not worship Him to Hell. This implies that failure to worship Him is a sin.
God is also depicted as lacking justice in His actions thus removing the godly image. The injustice is portrayed by the manner in which the sodomites and opportunists are treated. The opportunists are subjected to banner chasing in their lives after death followed by being stung by insects and maggots. They are known to having done neither good nor bad during their lifetimes and, therefore, justice could have demanded that they be granted a neutral punishment having lived a neutral life. The sodomites are also punished unfairly by God when Brunetto Lattini is condemned to hell despite being a good leader (Babor, T. F., McGovern, T., & Robaina, K. (2017). While he commited sodomy, God chooses to ignore all the other good deeds that Brunetto did.
Finally, God is also portrayed as being hypocritical in His actions, a sin that further diminishes His godliness and makes Him more human. A case in point is when God condemns the sin of egotism and goes ahead to commit it repeatedly. Proverbs 29:23 states that “arrogance will bring your downfall, but if you are humble, you will be respected.” When Slattery condemns Dante’s human state as being weak, doubtful, and limited, he is proving God’s hypocrisy because He is also human (Verdicchio, 2015). The actions of God in Hell as portrayed by Dante are inconsistent with the Biblical literature. Both Dante and God are prone to making mistakes, something common among human beings thus making God more human.
To wrap it up, Dante portrays God is more human since He commits the same sins that humans commit: egotism, hypocrisy, and injustice. Hell is justified as being a destination for victims of the mistakes committed by God. The Hell is presented as being a totally different place as compared to what is written about it in the Bible. As a result, reading through the text gives an image of God who is prone to the very mistakes common to humans thus ripping Him off His lofty status of divine and, instead, making Him a mere human. Whether or not Dante did it intentionally is subject to debate but one thing is clear in the poem: the misconstrued notion of God is revealed to future generations.

Essential Tips for Buying and Caring for Jewelry
Introduction
Jewelry is not only a form of adornment but also a reflection of personal style, culture, and sentiment. Whether investing in a timeless piece or purchasing costume jewelry for everyday wear, understanding how to care for and shop for jewelry can enhance your experience and ensure your pieces last a lifetime. This essay provides essential tips on cleaning jewelry, finding the best deals, choosing where to shop, and selecting the right length of chains.
Cleaning Your Jewelry
Proper maintenance is crucial for preserving the beauty and longevity of your jewelry. Here are some tips on how to clean different types of jewelry:
1. Gold and Silver Jewelry: Use a soft cloth to gently rub the surface and remove tarnish. For deeper cleaning, create a solution of warm water and mild dish soap. Soak the jewelry for a few minutes, then use a soft brush to scrub it lightly. Rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly.
2. Gemstone Jewelry: Different gemstones have varying degrees of hardness and sensitivity. For most gemstones, a gentle cleaning solution of warm water and mild soap is safe. Avoid using harsh chemicals which can damage certain stones. Always check the specific care instructions for delicate gems like opals or pearls.
3. Costume Jewelry: Since costume jewelry often contains non-precious metals and synthetic stones, it’s best to avoid soaking them in water. Instead, use a damp cloth to wipe away dirt and oils. For stubborn grime, a mixture of equal parts vinegar and water can work wonders—just be sure to dry it immediately afterward.
Finding the Best Deals
Shopping for jewelry can be overwhelming, especially with the numerous options available. Here are some tips for getting the best deals:
1. Research Prices: Before making a purchase, research the average price range for the type of jewelry you are interested in. Websites like Blue Nile or James Allen provide price transparency that can help you compare different styles and materials.
2. Look for Sales and Promotions: Many jewelry stores offer seasonal sales, holiday promotions, or clearance events. Signing up for newsletters from your favorite retailers can keep you informed about upcoming sales.
3. Consider Pre-Owned Items: Purchasing pre-owned or vintage jewelry can be a great way to find unique pieces at lower prices. Websites like eBay or Etsy often have sellers offering beautiful second-hand items. Just ensure that you verify the authenticity before buying.
Where to Shop
Choosing the right place to shop for jewelry is essential to finding quality pieces at reasonable prices. Consider these options:
1. Local Jewelers: Supporting local businesses can yield personalized service and unique selections. Local jewelers often have custom options that larger retailers may not offer.
2. Online Retailers: Online shopping provides convenience and a vast selection of styles often at competitive prices. Websites such as Blue Nile, Brilliant Earth, and Etsy provide customer reviews and return policies that can enhance your shopping experience.
3. Department Stores: Many department stores have their own jewelry sections offering an array of styles at various price points. These stores often have sales and promotions, making it easier to find good deals.
Choosing the Right Length Chain
When selecting a chain, the length is crucial for achieving the desired look. Here are some common chain lengths and their typical placements:
1. Choker (14-16 inches): This length sits snugly around the neck and is perfect for showcasing pendants or layering with longer chains.
2. Princess Length (18 inches): A versatile length that sits just below the collarbone. This is ideal for most pendants and works well with various necklines.
3. Matinee Length (20-24 inches): This length falls between the collarbone and bust, making it suitable for larger pendants or layered looks.
4. Opera Length (28-36 inches): This longer chain can be worn as a single strand or doubled up for a layered effect, perfect for adding drama to an outfit.
Conclusion
Caring for and purchasing jewelry involves various considerations that can enhance your experience and ensure longevity. By following these tips on cleaning techniques, finding the best deals, choosing the right shopping locations, and selecting appropriate chain lengths, you can make informed decisions that reflect your personal style while preserving the beauty of your jewelry collection. With the right knowledge, you can confidently navigate the world of jewelry, ensuring each piece remains a cherished addition to your wardrobe for years to come.
