Discuss the impact of the following three events: the Second Great Awakening,
American transcendentalism (as exemplified by Emerson and Thoreau), and American
Romanticism (as exemplified by authors such as Poe, Melville, and so forth). Discuss the impact of these events on the development of an “American mind” during the first half of the 19th century. Your essay should contain at least 5 specific examples from the text to support your argument.
