Describe your experience in the utilization of nursing research in your clinical practice
In my practice as a Registered Nurse, I view nursing research not as a purely academic exercise, but as the "clinical compass" that ensures my interventions are safe, effective, and modern. My experience revolves around three primary levels of utilization: direct application, advocacy for protocol change, and patient education.
I utilize research daily by incorporating evidence-based interventions into my routine care. A primary example is the shift in pressure injury prevention.
The Research: Studies transitioned the focus from simply "turning every 2 hours" to utilizing specialized prophylactic silicone foam dressings and individualized risk assessment scales (like the Braden Scale).
The Practice: I use research-backed data to advocate for specific support surfaces (specialty beds) earlier in a patient’s stay rather than waiting for skin breakdown to occur.
