Your Research Essay will be argumentative in nature and will incorporate research that you have done for the
assignment. You are to choose a topic that you find interesting and spend some time researching it. I would
like you to pick something that has clear “sides” or “camps” that allow you to choose one or the other. For
instance, you could choose to write about an issue that is currently being discussed in the media, like the
definition of marriage and how it is changing for better or worse, the extent of the role the government should
play in our private lives, immigration, healthcare, or any other hot topic being talked about in mainstream
media. The goal of this paper is to have you do thorough and academic research into one of these topics to
better understand the key elements of both sides of the argument, and then make an informed decision for
yourself. You will then write an argumentative essay to convince me of your side and prove your point using the
research you conducted. I want you to use sources found in the digital library; do not just Google your topic
