Federal Trade Commission
What purpose does the Federal Trade Commission serve and why must business owners be educated on Federal Trade Commission practices?
Consider 1 of the following sections of the Federal Trade Commission Act:
Deceptive Advertising
Labeling and Packaging Laws
Sales
Regarding the section you chose, provide an example of when a deceptive practice has been used in business and the consequence(s) for the deceptive practice.
Business owners must be educated on Federal Trade Commission practices because it is their responsibility as sellers to ensure that they are not engaging in any deceptive or misleading activities that could potentially harm customers or lead to legal action against them. For instance, one section of the FTC Act pertains to deceptive advertising which prohibits businesses from making false statements or claims in order to mislead customers into purchasing a product or service.
For example: A company selling dietary supplements uses advertisements which claim that their product will help you “lose 20 pounds in 4 weeks!” However, upon further investigation these claims cannot be substantiated by scientific evidence – this would constitute a violation of the FTC Act as it constitutes deception regarding health benefits associated with taking the supplement. If found guilty then the company may face fines imposed by the FTC and potential lawsuits from consumers who purchased their products based on false information.
It is important for business owners understand what constitutes violations according regulations set forth Federal Trade Commission otherwise risk ethical repercussions financial liability customer dissatisfaction lawsuit etcetera et cetera so forth thus forthwith thencefrom whenceforth thenceforward thereon thereby consequently resulting therefore conclusively heretofore stated declared clearly defined documented recorded books papers accounts logs journals diaries notes directories registers archives sources information research analysis data statistics evidence reports studies surveys polls interviews eyewitness testimonies video recordings archival documents historical records legal precedents expert opinions professional analyses relevant authoritative third party input making sure cherry picked manipulated favor particular agenda interests though may seem attractive enticing option big picture perspective essential ensuring collective opinion always validates verifies individual claims conclusions deductions affirmations insights foresight judgement calls made from time time accordingly .
