Fire Service

Chapter Seven discusses Management of Physical Resources. Physical resources are the facilities, apparatus,
equipment, and expandable supplies needed to conduct operations, both emergency and nonemergency.
Because of the importance of a fire department’s physical resources ability to protect life and property, the fire
insurance rates for a community are affected by the quality of these resources. These resources are used by
the Insurance Service Office (ISO) as a basis for developing insurance ratings.
Answer the following…

  1. What should be done to ensure that the department has the optimum number of fire stations ( considering
available standards such as those from NFPA and ISO ) and that these stations are located to meet changes in
community needs and are in a position to meet apparatus and personnel needs?
  2. What should be done to ensure that the department has the optimum number and types of apparatus for fire
and other emergencies, and that this equipment meets the need of the situations that might likely arise in
    the community
