Forensic Settings
Identify the two forensic settings and the two external dimensions of forensic treatment you selected.
Compare (similarities and differences) the settings in terms of the external dimensions of forensic treatment settings you selected.
Explain at least one conclusion you drew or insight you gained as a result of your comparison.
The service delivery models for both correctional facilities and mental health treatment centers involve a range of practices that are tailored to the individual needs of the inmates or patients. In terms of structure, most correctional facilities use a hierarchical model where there is an emphasis on authority, order, and accountability while mental health treatment centers often rely on more organic approaches such as peer support services that focus on collaboration among staff members as well as shared decision-making with patients.
In terms of legal/regulatory frameworks, both types of settings must comply with certain laws in order to operate legally. Correctional facilities are subject to criminal laws while mental health treatment centers must adhere to state regulations related to their particular field. However, there are some key differences between the two types of settings: for example, there is much stronger emphasis placed on patient rights in mental health treatment centers than in correctional facilities; additionally, prison systems have stricter restrictions regarding visitation hours whereas many states allow family members or friends who have been approved by a physician to visit patients at mental health care providers during specific hours each day.
From my comparison between these two settings I gained insight into how different models can be used depending on the type of setting it’s being applied within: for instance, although hierarchical structures might work better in prisons due to discipline requirements among inmates; however, this approach may not be suitable for treating those suffering from severe psychological distress since it could hinder an individual’s ability for self-advocacy or empowerment needed when recovering from certain conditions.
