You are a new graduate researcher at a social science and psychological sciences research
institute. You have been given a dataset based on the most recent Australian Public Service
Commission Census 2016, which is a survey of Australian Public Service Employees, and asked
to analyse the data to answer several questions of interest that are presented on the following
 pages.
 Data
For the purpose of this report, you should use the same data set as for the Assignment - Part 1.
You should already have saved your random sample of 1500 of the 4352 observations from the
original data file STA10003_Assignment_Data_SP4_2018.sav and you do not need to draw a
new random sample. If you have NOT saved your random sample of 1500 observations from
Assignment – Part 1, you can draw another random sample [see instructions for Assignment – Part 1].
 Submission Instructions
 • Your submission must be a single Word file or PDF file.
 • Although a cover page is not required, you should include your name and student number
within the document [eg in footer].
 • You must submit your file via the Canvas link by Tuesday 29th January 11:59pm. Only the
last document you submit will be retained in Canvas. Ensure that you submit the
 Assignment Part 2 document via Modules/Week 7/Assignment Part 2.
 • Once submitted, please review your submission to ensure the correct file has been
 submitted.
 • This is an individual assignment. Do not share your work with other students.

 ASSIGNMENT – PART 2
For your Assignment - Part 2, you are required to complete the first three [3] questions by
producing the appropriate analyses and writing the relevant report for each question. You
are also required to complete question 4, which contains some short answer questions.
For each of the first three questions requiring SPSS, you should include the relevant output [eg
tables, confidence interval calculations and graphs] with your report.
 Question 1:
Researchers hypothesise that Australian Public Service Employees who have not experienced
workplace change in the previous 12 month period are more engaged with the team of
colleagues they regularly work with than Australian Public Service Employees who have
experienced workplace change. Conduct an Independent samples t-test using the
TeamEngagement and WorkplaceChange variables to test this claim.
Produce the relevant output and write an Independent samples t-test report based on your
output in the style presented in the course materials.
 Question 2:
Researchers hypothesise that there is a difference, on average, in the extent to which male and
female Australian Public Service Employees are engaged with their supervisor. Conduct an
Independent samples t-test using the SprvisrEngagement and Sex variables to test this claim.
Produce the relevant output and write an Independent samples t-test report based on your
output in the style presented in the course materials.
 Question 3:
An employee relations counsellor hypothesises that Australian Public Service Employees are
more engaged, on average, with the team of colleagues they regularly work with than with
their job. Conduct a Paired samples t-test using the TeamEngagement and JobEngagement
 variables to test this claim.
Produce the relevant output and write a Paired samples t-test report based on your output in
the style presented in the course materials.

 Question 4:
The Let’s Get Physical Group operates fitness training courses for corporations which they
suggest increases productivity and morale of employees. At their Boot Camps, one session
includes a short physical training course which has an average completion time of 7 minutes
with a standard deviation of 0.75 minutes. Let’s Get Physical Group has received complaints
from a number of companies who say that the time taken to complete this particular training
 course is longer than suggested.
In order to evaluate these complaints, Let’s Get Physical Group take a random sample of 25 of
their customer records from the previous six month period which detail the time taken by
people to complete this particular physical training course.
 a. What is the population we can draw conclusions about in this study?
To answer questions (b) to (d), consider the sampling distribution shown in figure 1.
