Fracking in North America

Address also the effects on the environment. How does the environment benefit? How does the environment get
affected? What are the pros and cons?… Within those broad guidelines, you have considerable freedom. Be original. so,

  • Delve into case studies rather than broad generalities. Pick a sub-topic. Focus on a country, state/province, city/village,
or even neighborhood, not a global general issue.
  • If you have interest, family history, or expertise in a given region or topic, use it.
  • Don’t repeat too much information given in class, except as a quick scene-setting.

D. STRUCTURE OF FINAL PAPER:
This guide is designed to show you what needs to be in this paper, so you can make it as complete as possible. Keep in
mind that this paper itself is not due until end of term, but your research must be done well in advance of that date.

Main sections – Firstly, your paper must have a title. Then organize it by sections. Try to follow these sections below, or
any others you deem relevant, in writing your paper. Depending on your topic, you have some freedom in organizing
your text and choosing your own sections, maybe even not listed here. Whether these or your own, you must label the
sections in the paper, meaning, use them as headings.

So, here’s a rough order.

Part 1 – Background information on your topic, description of your type of energy, efficiency (if applicable)…

Part 2 – Major benefits and major drawbacks, if any; application in the world today…

Part 3 – What’s the environmental, or ecological impacts?…

Part 4 – What are some solutions or actions, if any, that have been implemented?…

Length – The core, written section of your paper must be min 8 full pages in length - excluding bibliography or images -
double spaced, Times New Roman -- not Arial -- font 11 or 12 (no larger), margins less than or equal to 1 inch. This is
equivalent to a paper with about 2,800-3,000 words or so. Don’t give me less…

Note: No extra spaces between paragraphs anywhere in your paper; no large spaces on the top first page. The first page
heading should be the tittle (very clear and pertinent) and your name only (meaning, no date, class, instructor name, etc
– this is not needed, and is given by Canvas already). No cover sheets please.
