Dante Alighieri played a critical role in the literature world through his poem Divine Comedy that was written in the 14th century. The poem contains Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. The Inferno is a description of the nine circles of torment that are found on the earth. It depicts the realms of the people that have gone against the spiritual values and who, instead, have chosen bestial appetite, violence, or fraud and malice. The nine circles of hell are limbo, lust, gluttony, greed and wrath. Others are heresy, violence, fraud, and treachery. The purpose of this paper is to examine the Dante’s Inferno in the perspective of its portrayal of God’s image and the justification of hell.

In this epic poem, God is portrayed as a super being guilty of multiple weaknesses including being egotistic, unjust, and hypocritical. Dante, in this poem, depicts God as being more human than divine by challenging God’s omnipotence. Additionally, the manner in which Dante describes Hell is in full contradiction to the morals of God as written in the Bible. When god arranges Hell to flatter Himself, He commits egotism, a sin that is common among human beings (Cheney, 2016). The weakness is depicted in Limbo and on the Gate of Hell where, for instance, God sends those who do not worship Him to Hell. This implies that failure to worship Him is a sin.

God is also depicted as lacking justice in His actions thus removing the godly image. The injustice is portrayed by the manner in which the sodomites and opportunists are treated. The opportunists are subjected to banner chasing in their lives after death followed by being stung by insects and maggots. They are known to having done neither good nor bad during their lifetimes and, therefore, justice could have demanded that they be granted a neutral punishment having lived a neutral life. The sodomites are also punished unfairly by God when Brunetto Lattini is condemned to hell despite being a good leader (Babor, T. F., McGovern, T., & Robaina, K. (2017). While he commited sodomy, God chooses to ignore all the other good deeds that Brunetto did.

Finally, God is also portrayed as being hypocritical in His actions, a sin that further diminishes His godliness and makes Him more human. A case in point is when God condemns the sin of egotism and goes ahead to commit it repeatedly. Proverbs 29:23 states that “arrogance will bring your downfall, but if you are humble, you will be respected.” When Slattery condemns Dante’s human state as being weak, doubtful, and limited, he is proving God’s hypocrisy because He is also human (Verdicchio, 2015). The actions of God in Hell as portrayed by Dante are inconsistent with the Biblical literature. Both Dante and God are prone to making mistakes, something common among human beings thus making God more human.

To wrap it up, Dante portrays God is more human since He commits the same sins that humans commit: egotism, hypocrisy, and injustice. Hell is justified as being a destination for victims of the mistakes committed by God. The Hell is presented as being a totally different place as compared to what is written about it in the Bible. As a result, reading through the text gives an image of God who is prone to the very mistakes common to humans thus ripping Him off His lofty status of divine and, instead, making Him a mere human. Whether or not Dante did it intentionally is subject to debate but one thing is clear in the poem: the misconstrued notion of God is revealed to future generations.

Hip Hop Jewelry Essentials: Building Your Silver Collection

Hip hop culture has long been synonymous with bold self-expression, creativity, and a flair for the extravagant. One of the most striking manifestations of this culture is its jewelry – a dazzling array of pieces that not only accentuate personal style but also signify status and individuality. Among the various materials that adorn hip hop jewelry, silver holds a special place due to its versatility, affordability, and timeless appeal. This essay explores the essentials of building a silver jewelry collection that resonates with the hip hop aesthetic while remaining true to one’s personal style.

Understanding the Aesthetic

Before diving into the specifics of building a silver collection, it is essential to understand the aesthetic that defines hip hop jewelry. At its core, hip hop jewelry is about making a statement. This can manifest as oversized pieces, intricate designs, or a combination of both. Silver, as a material, provides a perfect canvas for creativity: it can be polished to a brilliant shine or treated with a matte finish, can be adorned with gemstones or left minimalist, and can even be crafted into elaborate shapes that represent cultural symbols or personal narratives.

Essential Pieces for Your Collection

1. Chains: No hip hop jewelry collection is complete without a statement chain. Silver chains come in various styles, from thick Cuban links to more delicate rope designs. The key is to choose a chain that reflects your personality. A chunky chain can make a bold statement, while a more refined piece can offer versatility for different occasions.

2. Rings: Silver rings are another staple in hip hop jewelry. Whether it’s a simple band or an oversized signet ring emblazoned with initials or symbols, rings play a crucial role in conveying personal style. Consider stacking multiple rings together for an eye-catching effect or opt for a single bold piece to stand out.

3. Earrings: Hoop earrings are iconic in hip hop fashion, and silver hoops are no exception. Available in various sizes and styles, these earrings can accentuate any outfit. From small, subtle hoops to large, statement pieces adorned with stones or intricate designs, they serve as an essential accessory.

4. Bracelets: Silver bracelets can range from simple bangles to chunky cuffs engraved with unique designs. A well-chosen bracelet can bring balance to your overall look and complement other jewelry pieces in your collection.

5. Pendants: Lastly, consider adding pendants to your silver collection. These can be anything from symbolic charms to customized nameplates. Pendants add a personal touch and often serve as conversation starters.

Caring for Your Silver Collection

Building an impressive silver jewelry collection is just the first step; proper care and maintenance are crucial for longevity. Silver is prone to tarnishing, so it’s essential to store your pieces in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity. Regular cleaning with a soft cloth can help maintain their shine. Additionally, consider investing in anti-tarnish pouches or cloths to protect your jewelry when not in use.

Conclusion

In conclusion, building a silver jewelry collection that embodies the spirit of hip hop is an exciting journey of self-expression and creativity. By selecting essential pieces such as chains, rings, earrings, bracelets, and pendants, collectors can curate a collection that not only enhances their personal style but also pays homage to the culture’s rich history. With proper care and attention, your silver jewelry collection will not only shine brightly but will also tell your unique story within the vibrant tapestry of hip hop culture.
