You have completed in-processing at your new duty station for your assignment as the HR Technician for 1st
Brigade, 4th Infantry Division. Prior to your arrival, you learned that the incumbent was relieved and that the
unit will return from deployment 40 days after your established report date. However, the unit is scheduled to
deploy again 15 months after your arrival. This will be the unit’s third deployment in five years. Within 90 days
after redeployment, the incumbent commander and command sergeant major will complete their tours and the
unit will welcome a new command team.
As you prepare to transition into the position you understand that you must develop a plan to ensure your unit
is manned and prepared to execute its home station and deployment missions.
At a minimum, your discussion question should discuss the following:
- The role and responsibilities of your position in the S-1 as the BDE HR Tech
- Personnel Turnover (PCS, Retirements, IDES, etc.…)
- Training Events (i.e. Mission Rehearsal Exercises, Culminating Training Events, Sergeants’ Time Training,
MOS-related training, etc….) - Challenges to success
- Key Performance Indicators (Measures of Effectiveness and Performance): use Joint Publication 5-0, Joint
Operations Planning to gain an understanding of each and then utilize ATP 1-0, G1/AG S1 Operations,
Appendix D (S1 Assessment).
