Review technical information on improving health across a wide range of
conditions and review case examples of how technical information is translated into real-life
interventions. Two of your primary assignments in this class will be to update case studies of
successful global health interventions. Each case update will be a 4-person group assignment.
I will be randomly assigning the groups and will let you know the groups at the end of week 2 for
the first case update assignment. For each case update assignment, your group will select one
case of your choice from the selection of cases. Each of the cases describes an example that
occurred at least five years ago, some much older than that. Your job will be to “update” the
case and propose an intervention to extend or recoup the gains described in the case,
depending on what has occurred since the end of the case.
Your case update will include the following:
- Summary of case, including country history/context, intervention implemented,
achievements, and future challenges at the end of the case (~2 pages). - Update on country and condition: what are some major political, economic, physical,
and/or social changes that have occurred in the country since the end of the case? How
has the epidemiology of the condition changed since the end of the case? (~4 pages) - Describe three possible interventions from the DCP readings to address the health
condition described in the case and how they would be tailored to the current status of
the country (~6 pages). - Select one of the possible interventions you proposed as the most desirable and
provide rationale for decision (~2 pages).
Peer evaluations
You will also be evaluating each of the peers on your team. The evaluation should be based on
the team member’s contributions to the project and not based on personal similarities or
differences.
