Independent Extended Academic Study

There are three parts to this 9 credit unit.

  1. This log, which includes your proposal, methodology, tracking and reviewing of the process and evaluation of the writing of the project
  2. The project
  3. Presentation or seminar followed by evaluation of the delivery.

Research Log
PART A
Preparatory Research and the Proposal (AC: 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2)
Preparatory Research: It is important that you make sure there is sufficient resources available for you to use to write your project so during the break you need to do some research to find books, journals, web links, etc. These need to be current so try to avoid dated material, i.e. more than 5 years old – you need a range of different sources to compare and analyse in response to your project title or question.
Carry out initial research in your chosen topic area.

  1. Using Harvard list a minimum of 6 of the varied sources you use to help you write the proposal (please add additional lines if required):

  1. Select and define an academic project which is relevant to your course title (word count 150)

Part 2 Methodology
2.1(iii) Write a concise statement of methodology:
(Consider your approach, strategy, methods used, quantitative or qualitative and ethical considerations)

ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY ENTRY 2.1(ii), 3.2, 3.3 (you may write this in the first person unlike your project)

Using 2-4 of your sources, list each source using Harvard then write a short paragraph for each explaining why you are going to cite them in your project, evaluate their relevance, accuracy, and quality.

Part 3

Evaluation (AC 5.1, 6.2)
Respond to each of the following 3 points: (word count in total: 150)

Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of both the process and the final report.

Consider the value of any modifications you made.

Explain how the process and the report could be further improved.
