Select an Article: Find a news article (not an Op-Ed) related to information ethics where the author is advancing an argument, whether they do so explicitly or implied. The news article should come from a major news source* and be available in the English language. Any topic or subject in our syllabus is fair game including data breaches, privacy, data security, intellectual property disputes, AI, facial recognition, government-to-government censorship, freedom of speech, etc.
Develop Your Critical Analysis: Read the article and identify key elements of the article such as: What are the uncontested facts (i.e., fact pattern)? What is the author’s key argument(s)? How do they support it (i.e., premises)? How do they reach their conclusion? What are the spoken and unspoken ethical issues? What are the potential consequences? For whom? Which stakeholders are identified in the article? Who else might be affected?
