 Indeed, a critical part of understanding where you are is knowing where you came from and how you got there.

With that in mind, in your opinion, what is the most significant historical event that has impacted contemporary international relations? What's the cornerstone? What's the foundation that everything else is built on? Was it the Protestant Reformation? The Thirty Years War? Perhaps the Treaty of Westphalia? The Industrial Revolution? The American Revolution? Is World War II the most impactful? The Cold War? 9/11?

In preparation for the discussion, please take another look at the Chapter 2 Outline, review the accompanying PowerPoint and listen to Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" one more time. Not only will it help set the tone, but it will give you a glimpse of just how much history can be packed into a single lifetime.
