In terms of training for new recruits, law enforcement academies are teaching them the basic principles of policing as well as providing additional specialised instruction in areas such as crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques. It is also important that these training programmes teach officers how to approach cultural diversity and how to effectively communicate when dealing with different backgrounds and cultures (Ackerman et al., 2017).
