Brian Hu comments on the songs in Kal Ho Naa Ho--KHNH (Tomorrow May Not Be):
“Whereas, one reading may simply label this situation as “unrealistic”, an ironic reading would
divorce the scene from any call for realism and allow the scene to “speak” about the diasporic
situation in other ways.” So, Hu suggests that even though the audience know these songs do not reflect lives of Indians in America, yet they speak to the audience about the Indian man i.e., Aman’s ability to bring a community, family together; that he (Aman) can bring harmony and healing in different ways, as savior, angel, father figure in the different songs.
