Watch at least 2 of the videos under the module section and one of the readings under the recommended reading section or the files tab. You are encouraged to watch the video entitled Oklahoma Live Practicum Experience to get a sense of what students have done in the past and about their experience and the Historical Trauma Video. You are also encouraged to read at least one of the recommended readings from the reading list under the file section. I highly recommend Caring for the Clients in their world not mine by Ryan et al (2001) or Woods and Atkins (2006), Immersion into Another Culture One Strategy for Increasing Cultural Competency. The students the last three semesters participated in this discussion and they felt it was worthwhile and very informative videos and information. This will help you come to understand what this experience is about and what other things are to be expected as well as a better understanding of the community you will be working with while in Oklahoma. As we all know one of the major assumptions of the caring philosophy is coming to know the clients in which we are caring for. You can find these under the module section entitled videos and readings. You will need to make sure you are using google chrome or firebox and make sure your adobe reader is current. The recommended readings are also listed under both the files tab and the module section
