Conduct/construct an experiential evaluation/assessment of your organization's business model (or one with which you are closely familiar) using the business model canvas and related text.
Introduction: Managers who want to improve the effectiveness of their business model and organization and increase their ability to manage use diagnostics/assessments to determine the reality of business effectiveness compared to what they originally envisioned. Good feedback contributes to developing plans to improve business/organizational effectiveness and management performance.
Sample Answer
To evaluate the effectiveness of an organization’s strategy, we utilize the Business Model Canvas (BMC), a strategic management tool that allows us to visualize, assess, and pivot the business logic.
For this experiential assessment, I will evaluate a Regional Healthcare System transitioning toward the "Value-Based Care" model mentioned in our previous scenarios.
The "Envisioned" vs. "Reality" Gap
Managers originally envisioned a Centralized System where data flowed freely to reduce costs. However, the diagnostic shows that the Key Partnerships block is the weakest link. The "heated competition" acts as a bottleneck, preventing the Value Proposition (coordinated care) from being realized.
Leadership and Theory Integration
Applying Systems Thinking, we see that a change in the Revenue Stream (moving from Fee-for-Service to Value-Based Care) requires a total realignment of Key Activities. If the hospital is paid for outcomes rather than visits, the "indigent population using the ED for routine care" shifts from a revenue generator to a massive cost burden.
