Personality and social disorders

  This week’s lecture introduced personality and social disorders, but only covered a small fraction of the many, many disorders psychologists frequently encounter. For this week’s assignment spend some time in the library or on the internet (or both!) researching a personality disorder, social disorder or behavioral disorder.  You can choose one of the disorders mentioned in this week’s lecture, from the list below, or you can research another disorder. A Partial List of Examples: Paranoia Schizophrenia Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Sadistic or Masochistic personality disorders Bi-polar disorder Any severe phobia (www.phobialist.com) Narcissistic personality disorder Tourettes syndrome Once you’ve completed your research, compose a paper detailing what you’ve learned in your own words by answering the following: You are a Psychologist and your client has been newly diagnosed with a psychological disorder. Your client has come to see you to get some answers about what they are dealing with. Describe such things as the disorder’s symptoms, its biological causes, its treatment, its history and anything else you find which you feel is worth sharing with your client. Remember that this is your client and you will want to explain things in an easy to understand language from a personal perspective. You can use your creativity and relate some of their earlier related symptoms to the information you discovered. Remember that this must be in your own words. Do not copy information from sources and be sure to cite in the text as well as on the reference page. Remember that if you use three or more words in a row then you will need to make a quote and cite it in the paragraph and the reference page. Otherwise, be sure to put it in your own words. Here is an example to get you started: “I wanted to take some time today to explain the symptoms that you have been experiencing and what that means for your long term treatment. We discussed your experience with extreme highs and lows that have occurred on a regular basis. Others have experienced this and we have come to know this disorder as…” Requirements: 3-4 double-spaced pages (not including the cover or references pages), 12 point font, and APA format.
