Introduction and Alignment

In each workshop of this course, you will submit a detailed description of and reflection on one significant activity from your field placement.
The reflection papers will serve to chart your personal and professional growth. They are a method of monitoring your progress; therefore, write each paper with careful thought. The goal is that you will gain the ability to present your ideas clearly, analyze your experiences, and apply practice principles in your day-to-day experiences at your agency. You will submit your reflection papers weekly through the Dropbox.
Upon completion of this assignment, you should be able to:
• Articulate a philosophy of leadership related to the practice of social work.
• Use empathy, reflection, and interpersonal skills to effectively engage diverse clients and constituencies.
• Use reflection and self-regulation to manage the influence of personal biases and values in working with diverse clients and constituencies.

  1. Prepare a detailed description of one significant activity from your field placement. Write one paragraph for each of the five elements of the activity listed here. Identify the knowledge, values, skills, critical thinking, and self-management involved as they relate to the learning outcomes/competencies.
    a. Description of activity (what happened)
    b. Analysis of activity (why it happened)
    c. Gut reaction and analysis of thoughts and feelings (how you felt and reacted)
    d. Analysis of new learning and application of theory/skills (what you learned)
    e. At least one CSWE core competency and the accompanying practice behaviors that apply to the significant activity
