Positive relationship between empowering leaders and team performance and engagement.

The full title is: the positive relationship between empowering leaders and team performance and engagement. the moderating role of mastery goal orientation. I need the results section to be written including the analysis in SPSS. In addition, in the method section that is already written, I would need the blanks to be filled in from the analysis that will be done.
Because there are two datasets in SPSS one for team member data and one for team leader data there are additional steps that need to be done before the analysis:

  • these steps have to be done separately for both datasets
  • Checking if there are some variables that are weird (check if they are within the range)
  • No need to delete the participants that have values that are missing (if there is one or two missing it is fine)
  • Reliability analyses (cronbachs alpha) – ask for correlations between items to see if there are reverse coded items (if there is then there will be negative relations)
  • Check if there are reverse coded items (there shouldn’t be any)
  • Create scale scores (variable scores)
  • Variable scores so I can perform the mean scores
  • Under the data tab choose aggregate (it is necessary to be done for both datasets as in the team leader dataset there are teams rated by two leaders)
  • Variable team number to use for aggregation it will ask for break variable ( which is team number) (only on variable scores) and in the other box all other questions create new data file in aggregation command; add the number of cases (number of reports per team) in the command (tells you the team sizes) create a new data file with only those variables with the team level
  • Put aggregated team leader and team member in one file with the merge files function (data tab in SPSS – add variables – ask select a dataset) by means of adding VARIABLES – select the option match option of key variables so it recognizes which data goes to which teams (team number)

The hypotheses of the paper are:

  1. Empowering leadership is positively related to team performance.
  2. Empowering leadership is positively related to team members’ work engagement.
  3. The relationship between empowering leadership and teamwork performance is positively moderated by team mastery approach goal orientation, such that this relationship is stronger in teams with higher levels of team mastery approach goal orientation.
  4. The relationship between empowering leaders and team engagement is positively moderated by mastery approach goal orientation, such that the relationship is more positive in teams with higher levels of mastery approach goal orientation.
