Compose a short essay (~750 words) analyzing three primary sources.
Select one of the events from the list below that is of particular interest to you.
Then, locate 3 primary sources relevant to that event using the UNL Primary Source Databases. All 3 sources need to originate from within one calendar year of your selected event, but you are strongly encouraged to consider a range of types of sources (e.g. government document vs. newspaper article vs. image).
Review your selected sources, complete the Primary Source Trackers (2), and carefully consider what these sources say as well as how they say it. It is also worth thinking about how these sources connect to the themes and ideas raised about immigrants and asylees in The Map of Salt and Stars. Finally, draft an essay to present an argument in response to the following prompt:
“What do these sources tell us about attitudes and beliefs regarding immigration to the United States during the historical moment in question?”
