You will explore the notion of racial performance — its definition, possibilities, and limitations. In class, we discussed what racial performance entails, why scholars turn to this analytic in order to think through the presentation of race and racial identity within different forms of artistic expression, how this analytic must be contextualized and situated in conversation with other realities, and how we might use it to better understand the work and life of race in contemporary society.
