In the journal you will write reflections and observations on various selections (primary or secondary sources) in Connecting California. Please tell how the selections you read help us understand ideas and events we are covering in class. You may also comment on the pictures and maps.
As a general rule, it helps to discuss about six to eight selections for every four pages of writing. You do not need footnotes or page numbers, but please put the title of each selection that you discuss in bold the first time you mention it. For example, âNative American Societies of the SF Bay Regionâ and âCulture of the Wintuâ are selections you could use from Section II/Chapter 2 of the Second Edition (or Section I in the First Edition).
Examine each selection critically, and consider how it adds to our understanding of the history or the cultures we are studying.Relate each document to the broader history you are learning in our course reading and discussions. You may also relate your learning to other courses or experiences.
