“Reconstruction” chapter of American Yawp (http://www.americanyawp.com/text/15-
reconstruction/), and you must use at least three of the primary sources from American Yawp’s primary source
reader (http://www.americanyawp.com/reader/reconstruction/) as evidence to support your argument. As stated
previously, your answer must address how the Civil War and Reconstruction era are remembered. You are also
more than welcome to cite any of the other course materials.
An introductory paragraph and a brief conclusion that both feature a prominent thesis statement. Your thesis
statement should present the argument of your paper with brevity, clarity and force.
Paragraphs that begin with topic sentences; a topic sentence is a summary statement of the
direction/argument of the paragraph as a whole.
Your paper must cite the “Reconstruction” chapter of American Yawp, and you must use at least three of the
primary sources from American Yawp’s primary source reader as evidence to support your argument. Essays
that do not do so will receive no higher than a C.
Essays must provide at least three direct quotations from the primary sources. Essays that do not provide three
direct quotations will receive no higher than a C.
