For the comparison method: I think it is best to compare Fezzan over the three political eras in recent Libyan history, which are Constitutional Monarchy (1952-1969), Gaddafi’s era (1969-2011), and February Revolution era (2011-2021). I think we will deal with three types of political institutions which are democratic in first era, authoritarian in second era, hyper in third era). It will be a very productive and fruitful case competitive.
Even though the ethnic and tribal divisions in Fezzan are deep and the collective action problem is big, this also can be a cause of the absence of good political institutions at the level of national state as well.
Therefore, for the variables, I think political institutions at the level of state will be the best entrance to understand the outcome, which is the marginalization of the region.
