Sample Solution
Safety within the therapeutic relationship is paramount. It allows clients to feel comfortable enough to express their feelings and experiences, without fear of judgement or shame. McLendon demonstrated this by creating a secure environment for Janice and Jonathan. He began by addressing Janice directly asking her how things were going in the family, then acknowledging Jonathan’s presence as well, so that both felt acknowledged and included. Furthermore, McLendon established both physical and emotional safety when he sat down in between the two siblings to help them feel connected with each other while also making sure they had adequate space from one another if needed.
