Does Science (capital ‘S’) or the various disciplines of science move in any particular direction? More specifically – is the history of science a history of the progressive accumulation of knowledge?

How, exactly, do scientific ideas and practices change over time? What factors or variables cause science to develop or change across time?

We are seeing in Hogarth’s Medicalizing Blackness how medicine was interwoven with social and cultural ideologies, biases, and actions. But what about, say, physics? Chemistry? What do social/cultural contexts have to do with these so-called “hard” sciences? Isn’t science just…well…science??
