The objective of this self-reflection paper is to promote self-evaluation in the student’s own development as a member of the nursing profession
specifically in relation to Provision 5 and Provision 6 of the 2015 Code of Ethics for Nurses. These provisions are broken down as follows:
Provision 5. The Nurse as Person of Dignity and Worth
5.1 Duties to Self and Others
5.2 Promotion of Personal Health, Safety, and Well-Being
5.3 Preservation of Wholeness of Character
5.4 Preservation of Integrity
5.5 Maintenance of Competence and Continuation of Professional Growth
5.6 Continuation of Personal Growth
Provision 6. The Moral Milieu of Nursing Practice
6.1 The Environment and Moral Virtue
6.2 The Environment and Ethical Obligation
6.3 Responsibility for the Healthcare Environment
The self-reflection paper should explain the student’s own thinking and learning processes as well as implications for future learning and personal
growth. The reflection should be a ‘deep dive’ in-depth analysis of what ties together the student’s past learning experiences, the value of the leaming
to self or others, and the enhancement of the student’s appreciation for the discipline and profession of nursing. The paper should attempt to answer
the following questions:

  1. This self-reflection should be aimed specifically at the student’s journey to become a “morally good nurse”, not just someone who does nursing.
Describe how you have come to find your identity in nursing.
  2. How can you personally help to create an environment that supports a community of discourse which includes respect, mutuality, openness,
    transparency, and moral equality?
  3. Read and reflect on Provision 5 and Provision 6 of the Code of Ethics for Nurses (2015), pp. 73-112. How have your experiences in the nursing
program contributed to your journey from novice nurse toward competent professional nurse specific to these two Provisions?
