The goal of the final assignment for this class is to provide you with an opportunity to think and write critically
about the theoretical perspectives we covered throughout the semester. In this assignment, you are required to
answer two (2) questions by comparing/contrasting the work of different theorists. Each question is to be
answered individually, and there is no need to add an introductory paragraph/concluding remarks that tie the
questions together. Just an answer to the questions will do. Each answer should be approximately 500 words
long (2-3 pages) long (though this is more of a recommendation than an actual requirement. I will not count
how many words/pages you wrote! However, know that if your answer is much shorter than recommended, it
probably means that you have left out important information and you should revise and expand your work.)
While the answers should not involve outside research or readings, they should have a clear thesis statement
supported by a logical argument and backed up with evidence from the readings assigned for this class.
Critical reviews of the readings are welcome (in fact, they are highly encouraged!), as long as they are
supported by a logical argument and evidence.
Collaborations (such as Berger and Luckmann) will be considered as one theorist, and if we have covered
more than one text by the theorist you choose to work with, you will have to use at least two of those texts.
Each answer will be worth 20 points, and, as in the mid-term you will not be able to use the work of a given
theorist/collaboration more than once (unless it’s in addition to the required 2 theorists for the question).
Your report should include an answer to two of the following questions
Compare the processes through which inequalities based on gender and class are created and maintained.
Are inequalities based on gender/class the result of the same social processes, or do they derive from different
sources? Address this question by citing the work of at least two theorists, and illustrate your arguments with at
least two examples (in total)
