In “Republic of Spin,” David Greenberg writes about many spin doctors including Edward Bernays, James CarylIle, George Creel, Albert Lasker, Archibald MacLeish, Peggy Noonan, Clem Whitaker, and the list goes on.

Your case study assignment is to select two or three spin doctors, explain why you’re choosing them, trace how Greenberg writes about them in the book, and write about their impact in 2018.

In accordance with the rubric, grading will be based on the following:

  1. Background: What does the term mean, where does it come from, and why are you selecting these individuals to profile?
  2. Analysis: How did these people help their employers and/or society?
  3. Recommendations: What is their impact in the field of political communications, and why do you suggest some of their actions (and which ones) should be repeated today?
  4. Course Content: While some of these spin doctors were specific to one chapter, most were written about throughout the book. Your reading responses should help you identify people that mattered to you. I’ll be looking for appropriate connections throughout the paper; and not merely a sentence or two.
  5. Writing Mechanics: This is self-explanatory. Check your spelling, grammar, line spacing, readability, etc.
