Strategic Alliance
Using an Internet search engine, search for “strategic alliance” and identify two recently formed alliances. Do your best to not share the same alliances with your classmates. For each alliance, identify whether the companies’ other products are generally competitors or complimentary. What are the goals of each alliance? What brought them together? Discuss how you think a strategic alliance is or is not an effective way for these organizations to meet their goals. Be specific in your examples and provide supporting scholarly research to support your thoughts and ideas.
The goal of Samsung and Google's alliance is to bring together their respective strengths in order to create a more seamless user experience across different platforms, such as smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, laptops etc. This partnership allows users to access content on any device with the same ease of use regardless of the type or brand it is running off. Bringing these two powerful tech giants together also serves as a way for them to remain competitive in an increasingly crowded market filled with other established players such as Apple.
On the other hand, Volvo Cars’ alliance with Sony brings together their expertise in autonomous driving technologies and entertainment solutions respectively so that customers can enjoy the best of both worlds - safe driving combined with quality entertainment experiences while on the go (Saeidi et al., 2018). Both companies are looking towards developing cutting-edge technologies that will enable various devices within cars to function better by incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into its systems which should enhance overall customer satisfaction through increased safety features and improved user interfaces.
Overall I think strategic alliances can be effective ways for organisations to meet their goals when done properly. Companies must carefully consider who they partner up with so that there is synergy between what they offer while still maintaining some degree of independence so that they don't become too dependent on one another (Herrmann & Schubert 2011).
