To ensure all students benefit from my lesson plan, I will create a three-part objective which reads: “By the end of this activity, students should be able to (1) identify text features in informational texts; (2) explain how text features can be used to understand information better; and (3) use text features within a given context.” The first part of this objective focuses on identifying different components found within informational texts such as diagrams or tables, while the second part further encourages them to explore how they can use these text features for better comprehension. Finally, in order for them to demonstrate their understanding they must apply what they learned in a given context. With this learning objective set forth, I will also create corresponding assessments before and after completing my lesson plan with each student’s baseline score being taken into account accordingly.
