Part 1 – Define and Describe Motown Music (2 points) – to be written in class Wednesday April 24
Write this part of your paper at home first. Learn it (memorize it?) Come to class and write it down with a pencil or pen on paper.

Why are these songs called “Motown?” Where does this word come from and what does it mean? When did it start? Is one person most responsible for Motown? What historical importance does Motown music have? Is there anything that Motown artists were trying to accomplish? Is there anything they had to learn to do to accomplish that? Is there something about these songs that makes them sound similar?

c. For the body of your paper use 12-point font, double spaced
d. Print lyrics in 10-point font single spaced. Try to separate the lyrics of each song into verses.
